A change is free online when there is no fare difference and no fees apply. Finnair ticket types: what you can change

Your ticket type, listed in your booking confirmation email, decides everything else. Finnair's ticket types page sets out the rules below for Economy, Premium Economy and Business.

Finnair change fees

Finnair's help page does not state change amounts. It says a change made online is free when there is no fare difference and no fees apply, that the total depends on where you make the change, your ticket type's rules, seat availability and possible fees, and that you see the actual cost in Manage booking before you confirm. If the booking class you originally bought has no seats left, you pay the price difference.

Finnair's US-market service fee page lists these amounts:

Finnair service fees, US fee page (checked 8 October 2026)
ServiceFee
Ticket update: Finland, Scandinavia, Baltics, Europe25 USD
Ticket update: rest of the world40 USD
Name correction35 USD
Name change (where ticket type allows)400 USD
Refund, all ticket types except Flex50 USD
Finnair Plus reservation change50 USD

Fees differ by market and currency, so your own amount may not match. Older guides quote ranges such as 25 to 150 euros by fare type, which we could not match to Finnair's pages, so we have not repeated them.

Change fee vs. fare difference

A change can include two separate amounts. The service fee is whatever Finnair charges for updating the ticket, and it can be zero online. The fare difference is the gap between your original fare and the price of the new flight, and Finnair requires it when your original booking class is full. Changes made outside Manage booking, for example through customer service, can add fees.

Example (illustrative numbers, not Finnair fares): You hold a Classic ticket and move to a flight that costs 60 more than your original fare.

You pay the 60 fare difference, plus any fee Finnair shows in Manage booking. Finnair displays the total before you confirm.

How to change your Finnair flight

Change your Finnair flight yourself

  1. Go to finnair.com or open the Finnair app and open Manage booking.
  2. Check your ticket type. Finnair says Light and Superlight cannot be changed, and award or Avios-upgraded tickets need customer service.
  3. Choose the new flight, then review any fee and fare difference before you pay.
  4. Confirm, then save the new itinerary and check your seats and bags again.

If you booked with AirFiesta

  1. Use the at the bottom of the page, or email support@airfiesta.com with your AirFiesta booking reference.
  2. We check your ticket conditions and send you the options, with Finnair's charges, any fare difference and our US$10 per passenger service fee listed separately.
  3. Once you approve, we make the change with Finnair and email the new itinerary.

Cancel a Finnair flight and refunds

What you get back depends on the ticket type and on when and why you cancel:

  • Flex: generally refundable with no cancellation fee, until check-in closes.
  • Superlight, Light, Classic: generally non-refundable. Classic on journeys that start in Japan may be cancelled for a fee.
  • Mixed bookings: each ticket follows its own refund rules, and a cancellation fee applies.
  • Round trips on some routes: if you cancel the return on a Flex ticket, Finnair re-determines the booking as one-way, and the refund is reduced by the difference between the fare paid and the one-way fare.
  • Refund fee: the US fee page lists 50 USD for all ticket types except Flex.
  • Travel extras: generally non-refundable, with exceptions such as Finnair being unable to provide the service.

If you booked through an agency, the cancellation and any refund go through the agency.

Finnair 24-hour free cancellation rule

Finnair says you can cancel for a full refund if all of these apply: you booked through Finnair.com or the Finnair app, you cancel within 24 hours of booking, you made no changes to the booking, and the flight is at least 7 days away. Flights departing from South Korea are the exception to the 7-day condition. The refund covers flights, extras you bought, taxes and fees, and goes to your original payment method. Cancel in Manage booking. If you booked through an agency, do not assume the rule covers you.

Finnair no-show policy

Finnair's Conditions for bookings say flights must be taken in order, and that if you do not use a flight, all remaining flights on the ticket are automatically cancelled. A missed outbound can therefore cancel your return. We did not find check-in deadlines in the conditions text, so use the times shown for your flight on Finnair's website.

  1. If the flight has not left, change it (if your ticket allows) or cancel it before check-in closes.
  2. If it has left, contact Finnair or the agency that issued your ticket straight away.
  3. Ask about the whole itinerary before you buy a new ticket, since a missed flight cancels the rest.
  4. If you booked with AirFiesta, call or message us before departure.

Finnair name correction and name change

A Finnair ticket is a personal document that only the person named on it may use. Finnair separates two cases. A name correction fixes a spelling mistake, and a name change transfers the ticket to someone else. Classic and Flex tickets allow a name change for a fee, but only when every flight in the itinerary is operated and marketed by Finnair or Norra, and Light and Superlight do not. The US fee page lists 35 USD for a correction and 400 USD for a name change. We could not find a documents list for corrections, so contact Finnair or the issuing agency as soon as you notice a mistake, before you travel.

Finnair award and Finnair Plus bookings

Award flights, and tickets upgraded with Avios or upgrade benefits, must be changed through customer service. Finnair's Conditions for bookings list a 50 euro change fee per ticket for award flights changed after issue, plus any taxes and passenger fees caused by the change. Award flights cancelled more than 24 hours before departure return Avios to the member's account, but taxes, other passenger fees and expired Avios are not returned. Partly used award tickets are not refunded.

If Finnair changes or cancels your flight

Finnair says you may refund the unused parts of your ticket in full in these cases, if you choose not to travel:

  • Flight cancelled: the alternative Finnair suggests does not suit you, or none exists.
  • Schedule change of at least 1 hour: for smaller changes, your ticket rules apply.
  • Delay of more than 5 hours.
  • Overbooking: the suggested alternative does not suit you.

Cancel the entire booking in Manage booking, and a refund request is created automatically. If that does not work, use the refund form on Finnair's contact pages. We did not verify passenger-rights compensation rules here, so check Finnair's disruption page for your flight.

Changing Finnair tickets booked elsewhere

Booked through a travel agent or another site

The agency that issued your ticket controls the booking, and Finnair's ticket conditions still apply on top of any fee the agency charges. Ask the agency how it handles changes.

Booked directly with Finnair

Use Manage booking on finnair.com or the Finnair app, or use the contact options on its website.

Booked with AirFiesta

We handle it for you. See the steps above.

Beware of fake Finnair phone numbers

Search results for Finnair help are full of third-party pages listing numbers that may not be official. We do not print a Finnair number here. Use the contact options on finnair.com or the agency that sold you the ticket, and never share card details with a number you found in a search result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my Finnair flight?

It depends on your ticket type. Finnair says Light and Superlight tickets cannot be changed, while Classic and Flex tickets can be changed online in Manage booking if they were bought through Finnair.com or the Finnair app. Travel dates can be moved up to 12 months ahead, and changes are permitted until check-in closes.

How much does it cost to change a Finnair flight?

Finnair's help page says a change is free online when there is no fare difference and no fees apply, and the exact cost is shown in Manage booking before you confirm. Finnair's US fee page lists a ticket update fee of 25 USD within Finland, Scandinavia, the Baltics and Europe and 40 USD elsewhere. Fees differ by market, so check yours.

Can I change a Finnair Light or Superlight ticket?

No. Finnair states that Light and Superlight tickets cannot be changed, and that they are not refundable and do not allow name changes. If your plans may change, a Classic or Flex ticket is the alternative. Check the ticket type in your booking confirmation email.

Does Finnair have a 24-hour free cancellation rule?

Yes, with conditions. Finnair says you can cancel for a full refund within 24 hours if you booked through Finnair.com or the Finnair app, made no changes to the booking, and the flight is at least 7 days away. Flights departing from South Korea are the exception to the 7-day condition. The refund covers flights, extras, taxes and fees.

Are Finnair tickets refundable?

Superlight, Light and Classic tickets are generally non-refundable, according to Finnair. Flex tickets are generally refundable with no cancellation fee. On journeys that start in Japan, Finnair says Classic cancellation is allowed for a fee. Mixed bookings follow each ticket's own rules, and a cancellation fee applies.

Can I change the name on a Finnair ticket?

Finnair's ticket types page says Classic and Flex tickets allow a name change for a fee, but only when every flight is operated and marketed by Finnair or Norra, and Light tickets do not. Finnair's US fee page lists 400 USD for a name change and 35 USD for a name correction. The ticket is a personal document that only the named person may use.

What happens if I miss my Finnair flight?

Finnair's Conditions for bookings say that if you do not use a flight, all remaining flights on the ticket are automatically cancelled. Flights must be taken in order. If you may miss a flight, contact Finnair or the agency that issued your ticket before departure to ask what is possible.

What if Finnair cancels or changes my flight?

Finnair says you may take a full refund of the unused parts if your flight is cancelled and the alternative does not suit you, if the schedule changes by at least 1 hour, or if the delay is over 5 hours and you choose not to travel. For schedule changes under 1 hour, your ticket rules apply. Cancel the booking in Manage booking to start the refund.

Can I change a Finnair award ticket?

Finnair says award tickets and tickets upgraded with Avios or upgrade benefits must be changed through customer service. Its Conditions for bookings list a 50 euro change fee per ticket for award flights changed after issue, plus any taxes and passenger fees caused by the change. Partly used award tickets are not refunded.

Is there a refund fee at Finnair?

Finnair's US fee page lists a refund fee of 50 USD for all ticket types except Flex. It also says a reservation made at least 7 days before departure can be cancelled within 24 hours without a refund fee, through Manage booking. Fees vary by market, so confirm the amount for your booking.

Can I change a Finnair booking made through a travel agent?

Finnair says online changes are for tickets bought through Finnair.com or its app, so a ticket issued by an agency is normally changed through that agency. Finnair's ticket rules still apply on top of any fee the agency charges. If you booked with AirFiesta, tell us your booking reference and we will confirm the options and costs before anything changes.

How long is a Finnair ticket valid?

Finnair's Conditions for bookings say standard tickets are valid for one year from issue, or one year from the first flight if travel starts within that year. Finnair Plus award tickets on scheduled flights last 12 months from booking, and the return flight must fall inside that window.

Does Finnair charge more if I book at a Finnair office?

Finnair's US fee page lists booking fees at Finnair offices of 30 USD for flights within Finland, Scandinavia, the Baltics and Europe, and 50 USD for the rest of the world. oneworld products carry a 70 USD planning fee. Booking and changing online avoids these.

Is the Finnair phone number on other websites genuine?

Be careful. Many third-party sites list numbers for Finnair that the airline may not publish for changes. Use the contact options on finnair.com or the agency that sold you the ticket, and never share card details with a number you found in search results.

How we keep this guide current

This guide explains Finnair's published pages in plain English. It does not replace the conditions attached to your own ticket. Fees on Finnair's help pages vary by market, and the amounts we quote come from its US fee page, so yours may differ. When a fee, deadline or rule is not clearly published, we say so rather than guess. We removed older figures that we could not match to Finnair's documents, including fixed fee ranges by fare type, the offered "grace period" wording and the contact details of the old page.
