Alaska Airlines Flight Change Policy 2026
Last reviewed against Alaska Airlines' published fare, cancellation and help pages. Page updated .
Reviewed by Jack Martin, Senior Specialist at AirFiesta. About AirFiesta
Alaska Airlines has no change fees on Main fares, so you pay only any fare difference, but Saver fares are far stricter: Alaska says other changes are not allowed on Saver apart from same-day confirmed changes for an extra fee. Any ticket can be cancelled for a full refund within 24 hours of buying, and a Saver ticket cancelled at least 14 days before the first flight gets a 50% credit. Check your fare type first, because it decides almost everything else.

Alaska Airlines Saver vs Main Cabin rules
Your fare type decides what you can do. Alaska sells Saver fares at the lowest price with the tightest limits, and Main fares with no change fees. The ladder below ranks them from least to most flexible, based on what Alaska publishes on its Saver and Main Cabin pages.
-
Saver
Other changes are not allowed. A confirmed same-day change is possible for a fee when eligible. Cancelling at least 14 days before the first flight earns a 50% credit. No standby.
-
Main
No change fees. You pay any fare difference. A cancelled non-refundable ticket is credited to My Wallet.
-
Premium & First seats
Premium Class and First Class are seats you buy on top of a fare, and the underlying fare rules still apply. On a Saver fare, Saver restrictions still apply to a Premium seat. Upgrades are generally non-refundable.
Alaska does not publish one change fee list, and fare rules shown at booking and in your reservation always take priority.
Alaska Airlines change and cancellation fees
Main fares have no change fee. The table summarises what Alaska has published for each fare type. Where Alaska did not show a figure on the pages we could read, we say so instead of guessing.
| Fare | Changes | Cancellation | Same-day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saver | Not allowed, except same-day confirmed changes and the 24-hour policy | 50% credit if cancelled at least 14 days before the first flight. Otherwise no refund. | Confirmed change for an additional fee when eligible. No standby. |
| Main | No change fee. Pay any fare difference. | Non-refundable tickets are credited to My Wallet. | Confirmed change for a small fee. Fee amount not shown on pages we could read. |
| Any fare, within 24 hours | Change without a change fee | Full refund if cancelled within 24 hours of buying | Not applicable |
Sources: Alaska's Saver fares, Main Cabin, 24-hour cancellation and same-day change pages. Alaska states that same-day confirmed changes carry a fee, but the amount was not visible to us, and Alaska can change it, so use the price shown when you make the change.
Change fee vs. fare difference
A change can include two separate amounts. The change fee is a charge for changing, and on Main fares it is zero. The fare difference is the gap between the fare you paid and the price of the new flight. Removing the change fee does not remove the fare difference, so a busier date can still cost more. You see the amount before you confirm.
Example (illustrative numbers, not Alaska fares): You paid US$240 on a Main fare and the new flight prices at US$290.
With no change fee, your cost is the US$50 fare difference. The same change on a Saver fare would not be allowed unless you qualify for a same-day confirmed change.
Which Alaska fare is right if your plans might change?
The cheapest fare is not always the cheapest trip. If your dates may move, Main costs more than Saver but removes change fees and turns a cancellation into credit, while a Saver ticket can only be cancelled for a 50% credit and only if you cancel at least 14 days before the first flight. If your dates are fixed, Saver can be the better deal. Check whether you could be stuck: a missed Saver flight forfeits the whole trip, and Saver cannot be mixed with other fares on the same itinerary.
Alaska same-day changes and standby
Alaska offers confirmed same-day flight changes for a small fee, and Saver fares can use the confirmed change when eligible. Alaska also says same-day standby is not allowed on Saver fares, whatever your Atmos Rewards status. We could not read the fee amounts or standby rules for other fares, so use the price Alaska shows you rather than a figure from another website. Make the request on the day of travel from your reservation or at the airport, and ask about seat assignments, since you may need to choose a seat again.
Alaska 24-hour cancellation rule
Alaska says you can change a ticket without a change fee within 24 hours of buying it, and cancel it within 24 hours for a full refund. Separately, the US Department of Transportation's 24-hour rule requires airlines selling flights to or from the United States to hold a reservation or allow cancellation without penalty for 24 hours when you book at least 7 days before departure. This is the one window in which even a Saver ticket can be cancelled for money back. Read the Alaska 24-hour policy for the conditions that apply to your booking.
Cancel an Alaska Airlines flight
Open your reservation with your confirmation code and last name, choose to cancel, and review what you will get before you confirm. What happens next depends on your fare:
- Within 24 hours of buying. Full refund.
- Saver, at least 14 days before the first flight. A 50% credit, not a cash refund.
- Saver, later. No other refunds or changes are allowed outside the 24-hour and same-day policies.
- Main, non-refundable. The ticket value is credited to My Wallet for future travel, according to Alaska's Premium Class terms.
If you booked through an agency, the cancellation and any refund go through the agency.
Alaska travel credits and My Wallet
Alaska credits a cancelled non-refundable ticket to your My Wallet. Premium Class seat fees on that ticket are credited too, but My Wallet funds cannot be used toward Main Cabin upgrade purchases. We could not find a published expiry date or use rules on the pages we checked, so check the date shown on your credit. When you book a new trip, look for the option to apply wallet funds at payment.
Alaska no-show policy and missed flights
On a Saver fare, Alaska says that if you miss a flight the total fare is forfeited and all other flights in the trip are automatically cancelled, with no refund available. We could not find a published no-show rule for other fares, so be cautious with websites that quote a fixed fee or window.
- If the flight has not left, open your reservation and change or cancel it there if your fare allows it.
- If it has left, contact Alaska or the agency that issued your ticket straight away.
- Do not buy a new ticket before asking what happens to the old one, and ask about the whole itinerary, since a missed outbound flight can cancel the return.
- If you booked with AirFiesta, call or message us before departure.
If Alaska changes or cancels your flight
Alaska says that if it changes your itinerary, it will accommodate you on a different flight and waive any change or cancellation fees. If the new schedule does not work for you, ask about your options before you accept it. US rules on refunds for cancelled or significantly changed flights are described by the US Department of Transportation, and the details can change. Compare the alternatives with your plans, any onward flights and your hotel, and tell your agency first if you booked through one.
Premium Class and First Class seats
In most cases, Alaska seat upgrades are non-refundable. Alaska lists refund cases that include cancelling within 24 hours of booking when booked at least 24 hours before departure, changing your flight and buying upgrades on the new flight, and Alaska being unable to provide a comparable seat. A refund of the original seat purchase after a voluntary flight change is given only if you bought a refundable fare. A Premium seat on a Saver fare keeps the Saver restrictions, and upgrades cannot currently be bought with points.
Alaska award tickets and Atmos Rewards
Alaska's loyalty programme is now called Atmos Rewards. We could not find the rules for changing or cancelling award tickets on the Alaska pages we could read, so we will not quote fees or redeposit terms. Open your Atmos Rewards account or the reservation for the terms that apply to your booking.
Alaska name correction and name change
We could not find a name-correction rule or fee on the Alaska pages we checked, so we will not quote a number. As a general rule across airlines, the name on the ticket must match your ID, and a ticket cannot be passed to a different traveller. Saver fares are described as non-transferable. If there is a spelling error, tell Alaska or the agency that issued the ticket as soon as you notice, and before check-in.
Changing Alaska tickets booked elsewhere
Booked through a travel agent or another site
The agency that issued your ticket controls the booking. Alaska's own help pages tell customers who booked through an online travel agency to contact that agency. Alaska's fare rules still apply on top of any fee the agency charges.
Booked directly with Alaska
Use your reservation on alaskaair.com or the Alaska app, or use the contact options on Alaska's help centre.
Booked with AirFiesta
We handle it for you. See the steps below.
Beware of fake Alaska phone numbers
Search results for Alaska help are full of third-party pages listing numbers that Alaska does not publish. We do not print an Alaska number here. Use the contact options on alaskaair.com or the agency that sold you the ticket, and never share card details with a number you found in a search result.

Frequently asked questions
Does Alaska Airlines charge a change fee?
Not on Main fares. Alaska says Main fares have no change fees, so you pay only any fare difference. Saver fares are different: Alaska says other changes are not allowed on Saver fares, apart from same-day confirmed changes for an extra fee and the 24-hour rule.
Can I change a Saver fare on Alaska Airlines?
Mostly no. Alaska's Saver page says same-day confirmed changes are allowed for an additional fee when eligible, and that other changes are not allowed. A Saver ticket can be cancelled for a 50% credit if you cancel at least 14 days before the first flight, and there are no other changes or refunds outside the 24-hour and same-day policies.
How do I change my Alaska Airlines flight?
Look up your reservation on alaskaair.com or in the Alaska app with your confirmation code and last name, choose the flight to change, and review the fare difference before you pay. If you booked through another agency, contact that agency, since it issued the ticket. If you booked with AirFiesta, our team handles it.
Can I cancel an Alaska Airlines flight within 24 hours?
Yes. Alaska says you can cancel within 24 hours of buying a ticket for a full refund, and change it without a change fee in that window. The US Department of Transportation 24-hour rule applies to bookings made at least 7 days before departure, so check the conditions that apply to your booking.
What is the Alaska Airlines same-day change policy?
Alaska offers confirmed same-day flight changes for a small fee. Saver fares can use the confirmed same-day change when eligible, but Alaska says same-day standby is not allowed on Saver fares. Alaska did not show a fee amount on the pages we could read, so check the price when you make the change rather than relying on figures from other sites.
What happens if I cancel an Alaska Airlines ticket?
It depends on the fare. A Saver ticket cancelled at least 14 days before the first flight is eligible for a 50% credit, and no other refunds apply outside the 24-hour policy. For a cancelled non-refundable ticket on other fares, Alaska's Premium Class terms say the ticket price is credited to the customer's My Wallet for future travel.
What happens if I miss my Alaska Airlines flight?
On a Saver fare, Alaska says the total fare is forfeited, all other flights in that trip are automatically cancelled and no refund is available. We could not find a published no-show rule for other fares, so contact Alaska or your agent before departure and ask about the whole itinerary.
Does Alaska give a refund if I change to a cheaper flight?
We could not find a published rule on how Alaska treats a fare difference in your favour, so we will not state one. Manage your reservation shows the price difference before you confirm, so check what happens to any balance before you pay.
Where do Alaska Airlines travel credits go?
Alaska says credit for a cancelled non-refundable ticket goes to your My Wallet. My Wallet funds cannot be used toward Main Cabin upgrade purchases. We could not find an expiry date on the pages we checked, so look at your wallet for the date on your credit.
Are Premium Class seats refundable on Alaska?
In most cases, no. Alaska says seat upgrades are generally non-refundable. Refunds apply in some cases, such as cancelling within 24 hours of booking when booked at least 24 hours before departure, or if Alaska cannot provide a comparable seat. A refund for the original seat after you voluntarily change flights is given only if you bought a refundable fare.
What if Alaska changes my flight schedule?
Alaska says that if it changes your itinerary it will accommodate you on a different flight and waive any change or cancellation fees. If the new schedule does not work for you, ask Alaska about your options before you accept it, and tell your agency first if you booked through one.
Can I change an Alaska Airlines award ticket?
We could not find the change and cancellation terms for award tickets on the Alaska pages we could read, and the rewards programme is now called Atmos Rewards. Check the terms inside your Atmos Rewards account, and do not rely on fee or redeposit figures from other websites.
Can I change the name on an Alaska Airlines ticket?
We could not find a name change or correction rule on the Alaska pages we checked. As a general rule across airlines, the ticket name must match the passport or ID, and a ticket cannot be passed to a different traveller. Tell Alaska or the issuing agency as soon as you spot an error, and before check-in.
Can I combine a Saver fare with other fares?
No. Alaska says Saver fares are non-transferable and cannot be combined with other fare types on the same itinerary. If part of your trip is on a more flexible fare, it is booked separately.
Who changes my ticket if I booked through a travel agent?
The agency that issued the ticket. If you booked directly with Alaska, use your reservation on alaskaair.com or the app. If you booked with AirFiesta, our team handles the change and lists Alaska's charges, any fare difference and our service fee separately.
Is the Alaska Airlines phone number on other websites genuine?
Be careful. Many third-party sites list phone numbers for Alaska that Alaska does not publish. Use the contact options on alaskaair.com or the agency that sold you the ticket, and never share card details with a number you found in search results.
How we keep this guide current
This guide explains Alaska Airlines' published rules in plain English. It does not replace the fare conditions attached to your own ticket. We check Alaska's fare, cancellation, same-day and help pages before each update, and when a fee, deadline or rule is not clearly published, we say so rather than guess. We did not repeat unsourced fee figures from other websites.
