The Qatar Airways flight change policy for Economy fares was updated for sales from 18 February 2025. The fare family printed on your booking now decides your options, from the tightest to the most flexible:

Economy Lite

Economy Classic

Economy Convenience

Change fee vs. fare difference

A change can cost two things. The change fee is the charge for your fare, if any. The fare difference is how much more the new flight costs than the value of your old ticket. A free change removes the fee only, so a busier date can still cost more. Because fares rise as seats sell, changing early usually costs less.

Example (illustrative fares): You hold an Economy Convenience ticket worth $900 and move your outbound flight, which makes the trip $960 on the new date.

Your first change carries no fee, so you pay the $60 fare difference. A second change on the same ticket would add the change fee.

Which Qatar Airways fare is best if your plans might change?

The cheapest fare is rarely the cheapest trip if you have to change it. Economy Lite cannot be changed at all, so a single schedule change can mean buying a new ticket. Economy Classic charges a fee every time. Economy Convenience covers one change, which suits most trips with a single uncertainty, and Economy Comfort suits trips where several changes are possible.

If you have already checked in

Cancel your check-in status first. Qatar Airways says to do this before any booking change, reissue, exchange or refund, because otherwise the flight segment may not be cancelled properly and you can be recorded as a no-show even if you changed the booking before departure. You can cancel check-in through Qatar Airways' online channels or at a service touchpoint.

Change a Qatar Airways flight date, route or destination

Cancel a Qatar Airways flight and refunds

Whether you can cancel and get money back depends on your fare. Economy Lite allows no cancellations, and other fares follow their own conditions, which you can see in Manage Booking, where Qatar Airways says you can change your flight or request a refund. On fares that allow a refund after departure, a partly used ticket is refunded as the fare paid less the fare for the part already flown, minus any cancellation fees. Qatar Airways has a separate name correction process for fixing spelling and similar errors, so ask for a correction as soon as you notice one.
